The Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa (CAFO) supports children and youth as they navigate through the child welfare system. Families involved with The Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa (CASO) are facing mental health challenges, poverty, or addiction, all of which can impact their ability to care for their children. CAFO gives access to educational, enrichment, and essential opportunities to these children and youth whose families need a little extra support.

The Mental Health Gala

Amy Caruso, CEO

The Mental Health Gala is a fundraising effort to raise money for two very important organizations in our community, Do It For Daron (DIFD) and The Royal Ottawa.

DIFD was founded in 2011 by friends and family of Daron Richardson, who died by suicide at the age of 14. With this initiative came a movement to encourage conversations and spread awareness about youth mental health.

The Royal is a specialized mental health centre which treats people with complex and serious mental illnesses across Eastern Ontario. It focuses on 14 areas of care including, but not limited to: anxiety, mood disorders, operational stress injuries & PTSD, recovery programs, schizophrenia, seniors, youth, women’s mental health, etc.

Together we can make a difference in our community and help end the stigma around mental health in Canada!

The CHEO Foundation works with this wonderful community to manage and disburse funds raised through third-party and signature events as well as annual fundraising campaigns. Community organizers support CHEO through more than 250 events each year, ranging from corporate and private parties to barbecues and sports tournaments. Significant funds are also raised through annual giving and bequests. CHEO is part of the North America-wide Children’s Miracle Network that allocates funds raised by local operators of large national and international corporations to benefit CHEO. Contributions large and small, from marquis galas to lemonade stands, enable a wide variety of pediatric programs, research, state-of-the-art equipment, medical and nursing education, and assistance for families in crisis.
